We will soon have a robust forum where individuals currently or previously on psychiatric medication, their loved ones, and those who treat them can discuss viable alternatives to long-term psychiatric medication use. HMHI will host online forums, chat rooms, and blogs where people can compare experiences, coping strategies for life without psychiatric medication, and discuss effective treatments to commonly occurring side effects that arise from psychiatric medication use. We would like to create a Wiki or nexus of open-source information regarding alternative mental health practices and modalities. Ideally, under the auspices of the HMHI, doctors in accord with holistic mental health can take the lead in conducting weekly seminars or webinars on topics ranging from side effects of specific drugs to alternatives to psychiatric medication they have had experience and success with in their practice.
Legal: Create a forum for patients to discuss and strategize recompense from those pharmaceutical firms who manufacture and market psychiatric medication and lobby the government for tighter regulation of long-term psychiatric drugs

Furthermore, as resources and manpower allow, HMHI would like to lobby state and federal government to restrict long-term, poly-med protocols.

Research: Research effective alternatives to long-term psychiatric medication use
Some 1,200 individuals seeking to taper of psychiatric medications and replace them with holistic alternatives have received treatment at the Alternative to Meds Center. Countless others have received care from orthomolecular and holistic practitioners in inpatient and outpatient settings around the world. At HMHI, we would like to collect and systematically categorize data that pertains to effective substitutes for each medication and make such data widely accessible to research scientists, doctors, educators, and concerned individuals. Such quantifiable, measurable data could be the basis for published scientific studies, articles, and ongoing research concerning effective holistic alternatives to commonly prescribed psychiatric medications.
Funding: Offer funding in the form of scholarships to those individuals who desire to taper off and then replace their psychiatric medication with holistic alternatives as well funding to individuals who seek a career in the field of alternative mental health
Many people who face life-threatening side-effects from the long-term use of psych meds simply cannot afford the treatment they need to safely taper off their medications and replace them with effective alternatives. HMHI will offer scholarships to such afflicted individuals to receive inpatient and outpatient treatment. Furthermore, HMHI will offer scholarships to individuals perusing studies in the field of alternative mental health. One effective way to combat the current over-prescription of psychiatric medication is to seed a new crop of mental health professionals who rely on alternative modalities to treat mental health problems.
